Life, isn’t that what it’s really all about?  Have you ever noticed that at the heart of every testimony is life?  Life, abundant life, is the heartbeat of our Lord – He wants us to live and walk victoriously each and every day of our life.  On the other side of the coin is death and destruction.  Each day we live on this Earth, the Devil seeks to kill, steal and destroy; but Christ came that we might have abundant life (John 10:10).

Life can be simply characterized by something growing.  In contrast, dead things do not grow, and soon they began to smell as they rot.  In the economy of God we must realize that everything that has life has purpose.  In Genesis (2:7), we read, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Today in such socially and politically turbulent times we read and hear questions as well as debates on the subject of life and when it begins.  To answer this question I want to bring out a few scientific facts before moving into scripture.  Conception is when a single cell is formed when the ovum (egg) is fertilized by the sperm; this cell is known as a Zygote.  Soon after conception a specific DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) is registered to that cell. The DNA will remain the whole span of a person’s life; and, moreover, can be identified thousands of years later through DNA testing.

Regarding conception, we read in the Psalms that when man was conceived as a single cell (Zygote), as he began to develop as an embryo, God wrote down in a book all the parts of the body before any of them were formed.  “My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.  Thine eyes did see my substance(Embryo), yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them” Ps 139:15-16.  It is my opinion in this book is recorded your life, the development of your physical make-up.  Clearly, long before DNA, God had already recorded your life.

As we turn to scripture, the question could be asked, what does the Bible say about life before birth?  There are three specific Scriptures I believe reveal very clear answers to our question.  First, the Word of the Lord clearly states that Jeremiah was both sanctified and ordained as a prophet to the nations before birth (Jeremiah 1:4-5).  Secondly, Isaiah was chosen by the Lord as a prophet before birth (Isaiah 44:1-2).  Thirdly, upon the greeting of Mary the mother of Jesus, the child who would become John the Baptist leaped inside his Mothers womb with joy and the mother, Elizabeth, was filled with the Holy Ghost (Luke 1:41-44).

Scriptures also support the sanctity of human life.  In the law of God as recorded in the Book of Exodus (21:22-25), God gives specific instructions on making judgments regarding an unborn child in its mother that is traumatized as a result of physical assault.  If two men are fighting and a pregnant woman is struck in such a manner that the child is born pre-maturely, the offending person receives a judgment that is equal to the injury that was inflicted upon the child.  In such a case where the unborn child suffers death, the offending person is sentenced to death as well.  If the unborn child suffers blindness the offender will be sentenced to blindness and so forth.

God is the giver and protector of life.  Life is the reason for the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Bible states that the thief (Devil) comes to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus comes that we might have life, but not just life, life more abundantly.  One of the most profound characterizations of Evil is the disdain for human life.  Throughout history, evil rulers have sought to destroy life.  Most often than not, evil clearly resents, abhors, condemns and exterminates life.  Hitler exterminated over three million Christians and Jews.  Between 1917 and 1987, over sixty two million people have lost their life as a result of communistic rule.  Saddam Hussein is thought to be responsible for nearly one million deaths.

Unfortunately, the greatest barbaric acts of evil tyrants are eclipsed by the abortionist living in our communities.  Their slaughter of innocent blood was sanctioned by a majority ruling of seven US Supreme Court Justices in the case of Roe vs. Wade, December 22, 1973.  Since that tragic blight in American history, our nation has slaughtered over fifty two and a half million unborn children of God.  God had a plan and purpose for every single child that has been offered up as a sacrifice to the Devil.  Due to the selfishness and pathetic immoral actions of our nation, we have tossed responsibility and moral authority out the windows and clung to a lifestyle of self-gratification.

Evil masquerades as choice, but while publicly proclaiming a false doctrine of choice, evil men and women seek to limit and even abolish the rights of our families to expand.  The complete annihilation of the family unit is one of the devil’s greatest ambitions before he is cast and chained in Hell.  This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that views television and notices the media’s contempt for any manner of action or lifestyle that is traditional and morally wholesome.

The final truth is this: God is pro life!  God calls every man, women and child to experience abundant life each and every day.  Any person or philosophy that isn’t pro life is simply evil and should be defeated.  Fortunately, like any sin and/ or lifestyle that are contrary to the Word of God, there is forgiveness through the amazing Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Our nation is in dire need of God’s mercy, but first she must repent and turn from her wicked ways.
